About Mark Morrow

MARK MORROW

Mark Morrow is a writer, editor, author and book development specialist with more than 30 years of experience. His journalism credentials range from his work as a Capitol Hill reporter in Washington, DC covering defense and aviation programs, to the founding of a successful and well-regarded industry newsletter on quality and process management, to travel writing.

In 1997 he left an Executive Editor position at McGraw-Hill Professional to develop a publishing program for a nonprofit organization in Alexandria, VA, the American Society for Training and Development (ASTD). ASTD Press eventually grew into a respected publishing program in the workplace learning and development space that now publishes 25 new titles a year. Mark’s other journalism experience includes his work as an award-winning photographer and photojournalist for a variety of local, regional and national newspapers and magazines that included assignments for EsquirePeople and Fortune.

Mark is the author of Images of the Southern Writeran acclaimed collection of candid photographs and personal essays that feature some of the 20th century’s most celebrated Southern born writers. The four-year-long photographic journey he took resulted in candid, evocative portraits taken in the homes of writers such as Tennessee Williams, Eudora Welty, Walker Percy, Cormac McCarthy, Erskine Caldwell, William Styron, Anne Tyler, and dozens of other celebrated and respected Southern writers.

In addition to his reporting, writing, and photographic pursuits over the years Mark’s career path includes a number of eclectic side trips such as: medical photographer and graphic artist for the University of South Carolina School of Medical; single and dual-engine airplane reviewer for a West Coast aviation newspaper (he was an avid, licensed private pilot at the time); performer in noisy bars with his 1967 Martin D-28 guitar (he and his now 21-year-old daughter still occasionally perform together): and, for a very brief time, his unsuccessful career as a car salesman.
